Bill Rogin '37 Athlete - Assumption EraBill Rogin was born in Windsor, Ontario on June 9, 1915.In 1933, the Patterson big man was selected to the Windsor Star's first WSSA All-City basketball team as a forward. Also in 1933, he was the WSSA Senior Scoring Champion, scoring 95 points in 10 games. Later, he gained fame as a prolific scorer with the famous "Fighting Freshman" of Assumption College.On February 9, 1937 in a spectacular scoring spree against Detroit Lawrence Tech, he set two N.C.A.A. college basketball scoring records: most points in a game (35), and most consecutive foul shots in a game (16). With his high score of 35 pts, Rogin, often called "Moose", established a school record that stood until 1947 when Assumption’s Freddie Thomas scored 42 pts. In 1933-34 he was a member of the Assumption College team, Ontario Champions, and Eastern Canadian semi-finalist. In 1935 his Assumption College team, Ontario and Eastern Canadian Champions, were champions in the Michigan-Ontario Collegiate Conference, and Bill was a 1st-Team All-Star selection. In 1935 he was a member of the Windsor Grads, Windsor's first Ontario Football Champions. He played guard and kicker. An outstanding sports official (football & basketball), he worked the 1947 CFL Grey Cup game as a linesman, the FIRST Windsorite to officiate a Grey Cup game. The Bill Rogin Trophy is awarded annually to Windsor's Most Valuable Sr. Boy's High School Basketball player. Bill Rogin was inducted into the Windsor/Essex County Sports Hall of Fame in 1982.
