A 6-foot-10, 250 pound centre Jessy Young graduated from George Mason University in 2003 and was playing last year in Spain for Drac Inca. The 24-year-old has been a member of Canadas National team for three years and is a native of Peterborough Ontario. Participated in the 1999 USA Basketball Hoop Summit. Final year at George Mason led team in rebounding 8.4 rpg and third in scoring 11.6 ppg. Two time conference all star. Played for Drac Inca. in Spanish Division I professional league. Played for the International Select Team at the 1999 Nike Hoop Summit, where he scored 14 points and grabbed 8 rebounds (in 20 minutes). Had 7 rebounds and pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds in the 1999 Capital Classic All-Star Game as the Washington-area team upset the U.S. All Stars. Scored 23 points and grabbed 10 rebounds (in 22 minutes) vs Team U.S.A. at the Junior World Championships in 1998. Also socred 42 pints vs Cuba in the same tournement. Selected First Team pre-season All-Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) in vote of league coaches for the second straight year. Jesse is a post player with a good shooting touch around the basket and has back-to-the-basket moves. Solid and active rebounder at both ends of the court. Nice shotblocket because of his timing and body control. Effective shooter facing the basket with range to about 17 feet. Drives well to the basket and is able to finish right and/or left-handed. Likes to post up and seal off his man to get an easy basket. Has a good feeling for the basket and positions well while posting up. Has some good moves in the post and does well in traffic. Needs to anticipate better in some situations in defense. Can play defense at both inside positions because of his size, strength and quickness. Runs the floor well for his position and size. Has to improve his outside shooting from 3-point range. Decent interior passer in high/low (post) game. Had a good career at George Mason University under Head Coach Jim Larranaga. Member of the Canadian national team which participated at the Pan Am Games this summer and the Pre Olympic Qualification Tournement in Puorto Rico. Came to Spain for his first season overseas and did fullfill the expectations at both sides of the floor by being the ultimate teamplayer doing a lot of dirty work underneath.
